cigarettes

Don Draper (Jon Hamm), Mad Men

“I like cigarettes, Miss Taggart.  I like to think of fire held in a man’s hand.  Fire, a dangerous force, tamed at his fingertips.  I often wonder about the hours when a man sits alone, watching the smoke of a cigarette, thinking.  I wonder what great things have come from such hours.  When a man thinks, there is a spot of fire alive in his mind–and it is proper that he should have the burning point of a cigarette as his one expression.”
~ small newsstand owner who used to own a cigarette factory that had gone bankrupt, Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand ~

*It was through Mad Men that I heard about Atlas Shrugged.  It was mentioned by Cooper (Robert Morse) in the show.  –There is a lot of smoking in that show.  The show is set around the late ’50’s.  The book was published in 1957 and is also said to be set around the same time.  It is a really good read so far…
